“Your name is Deborah, Deborah. It never suited ya” (Pulp)
I love to hear your story but what’s mine?
I have always worked in the caring professions, being a thoughtful, reliable and constant support to people at their best and most difficult moments. It was the perfect fit for me. I respect and value each and every person in their own right, without judgement, being a fierce promoter of equality and the rights of ALL people. I am patient, friendly, compassionate, helpful and organised, having a natural ability to put people at ease, build relationships, ask the right questions, truly listen, feel all the feels and work together to get the best for each person. But after 20+ years in those roles (and a big birthday), I was ready for something new.
Having planned and attended countless naming ceremonies, funerals and weddings, I had dreamt about becoming a celebrant for over a decade. Finally the time was right to make this dream a reality. No one I mentioned my plan to was shocked-in fact everyone’s response was “You would be the perfect celebrant-when can you do my ceremony?”. So my celebrant journey began and I could not be happier. It never feels like a job but I have THE best job in the world-working with amazing people to celebrate the most important moments in their lives. Relationships, love, people and connections are everything and EVERY ceremony is my absolute honour.
When not crafting the perfect ceremony, I am at my happiest hosting a get together with family and friends; laughing until I cry at a comedy show; or jumping about a concert with my hubby (hopefully you spotted the many song lyrics on my pages-a festival wedding is the dream). I love travelling, especially in the beautiful Scottish countryside (my #1 spots are the Trossachs, although a Glasgow gal now I am a rural girl at heart, and the “Bonnie Banks of Loch Lomond” where I got married). I adore animals, volunteering with an animal charity in my spare time, and sunflowers (the logo probably gave that away)! I am also a keen baker having made many a wedding cake.
